Chronomancer - Metroidvania Level Design

I incorporated several metroidvania level design techniques in Chronomancer, such as gating off areas with abilities in a variety of different ways, shortcuts that can be opened up later in the level, and optional areas that the player may need to return to with other abilities. I also used techniques for creating cognitive maps to ensure that key parts of the map would be easy to distinguish for ease of navigation.
This is the first time I’ve worked on a metroidvania so the experience of creating a metroidvania level has been very useful in developing my level design skills.
